Moving wheels 1/2-inch outwards eliminates rubbing and clearance issues when installing aftermarket wheels.

1-inch (25mm)

A super-effective accessory to increase stability and give a noticeably aggressive stance.

1.5-inch (40mm)

By pushing out the wheels further out from the hub with 1.5-inch wheel spacers you gain in handling characteristics and get a catchy look.

2-inch (50mm)

Allow for significantly wider tires to improve road grip and traction when off-roading.

The Benefits of Using Wheel Spacers on Jeep Renegade

Wheel spacers are aluminum/steel devices that are mounted on the wheel studs of a car. The lug nuts are usually locked to the stud threads using a sealant such as Loctite. Adjusted lugs must be torqued and tweaked to the manufacturer’s specified mileage. Studs found in wheel spacers push the Jeep tires and wheels outward. They give clearance for broader tires while at the same time allowing you to keep your factory rims.

Wheel adapters are a form of wheel spacers that change the stock bolt pattern of the car instead of pushing the wheels outward. They are available in different versions for Jeeps and include:

  • 5×4.5” to 5×5” which converts TJ, YJ, ZJ, XJ to a JK bolt pattern
  • 5×4.5” to 5×5.5” which converts YJ, XJ, TJ, ZJ to a CJ bolt pattern
  • 5×5” to 5×4.5” which converts JK to a YJ, ZJ, XJ, TJ bolt pattern
  • 5×5” to 5×5.5” which converts JK to a CJ bolt pattern

The choice between wheel spacers and adapters depends on the owner’s budget and preference. Wheel spacers can be used where purchasing new wheels that offset better isn’t possible. Where new wheels come with a different bolt pattern, wheel adapters may be needed to change the bolt pattern.

All installations, in the case of both wheel spacers and adapters, should adhere to local laws and regulations. Vehicle inspection laws vary from state to state. It is best to first check with your local inspection station on the rules and regulations governing the installation and use of wheel spacers and adapters.

Choosing Bolt Pattern & Thickness

Assuming that your clearance issues arise at the break, how much clearance do you need for your calipers? According to experts, the recommended distance is between 1 to 3 millimeters. However, any amount of clearance will work, even the slightest. You can pass a piece of paper through the spacing. If it goes through without any fuss, you’re set. Ensure that you bolt your wheel to the correct torque so that you don’t distort the clearance.

Installing Wheel Spacers on Jeep Renegade

What is required:

  1. Ratchet
  2. Red Loctite
  3. Brake Cleaner
  4. 19mm, 17mm Socket
  5. Foot-Pound Torque Wrench
  6. Floor Jack

What you’ll get:

  • Twenty Lug Nuts
  • Four 25mm (1”) HUBCENTRIC 5×110 Wheel Spacers w/12×1.5 Studs

Instructions

Make sure that you have all the requirements before starting the installation.

  1. Use a lug wrench or a 17mm socket to loosen all the lug bolts starting with the rear wheel that’s on the driver’s side of your Jeep Renegade. Don’t remove the bolts. Use a floor jack to raise the wheel that you’ll start working on.
  2. Remove the lug bolts. The hub ring used in the Jeep isn’t enough to constrain the wheel as you do this. Hold or push the wheel as you remove the last lug bolt. Set the wheel aside for now.
  3. Visually inspect the rotor and clean the surface of any dirt or sand with some brake cleaner.
  4. Fix one of the purchased wheel spacers onto the Renegade’s axle.
  5. Apply the red Loctite to the threads of the removed factory bolts.
  6. Engage your Jeep’s parking brake. Use a 17mm socket to tighten the bolts in a 5-point star pattern. This secures your wheel spacer. All bolts should be tightened to 95 foot-pounds of torque. You can ask a friend to step on the brake pedal as you work on the front wheels.
  7. Use the lug nuts provided to secure your wheel onto the wheel spacer. Tighten the nuts in a 5-point star pattern to 95 pound-feet of torque using a 19mm socket.
  8. Don’t over-torque the nuts as this can break the Loctite sealant. After 100 miles of usage, check the torque on all your spacer lug nuts to ensure that none is loosened. Carry out a visual inspection at every tire rotation. Where large off-road tires are used, do this after every 3,000 miles.

Jeep Renegade Mods with Wheel Spacers: Before & After (Pics)

Jeep Renegade Limited ‘16 before/after 1” Hubcentric Wheel Spacers

1" wheel spacers before and after

Appearance: Thrusting the Jeep Renegade wheels out to boost the position and more intense vision.
Clearance: A good number of factory Jeep Renegade wheels are missing plenty of clearance to line up with big brake kits.
Correction: The offset of the Jeep Renegade wheel install happens to be too high, leading to the wheels resting too far inside. This may urge the tire to rub on the inside Jeep Renegade caliper covers, or other parts. Wheel spacers correct the offset concern.
Handling: by distancing your Jeep Renegade wheels further apart, this straight-forward adjustment can beautify the Jeep Renegade automobile with more horizontal balance and controlled cornering.
