The Benefits of Using Wheel Spacers on Scion TC

The Scion tC was a two-door sport compact hatchback that was first introduced to the U.S. market in June, 2004. Toyota produced two generations which came with either a 2.4-liter or a 2.5-liter straight-4 engine. The vehicle went ahead to win numerous awards and participated in several racing competitions such as the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge and the Grand Prix of Long Beach.

Check out tips for the most affordable and long-lasting Scion tC wheel spacers and adapters.

Choosing Bolt Pattern & Thickness

There are various ways you can determine the appropriate thickness of your spacer depending on your individual customizations. You can start by making a wild guess on how much further your wheels need to push out depending on your wheel and tire sizes. This isn’t easy and may result in severe errors. You could order numerous wheel spacers with varying thickness and test fit each one. This is, however, impractical and expensive. Bearing this in mind, we have the best solution for you that saves time, money and effort.

Get yourself some ordinary hardware-store washers. They are readily available at your local hardware. If you’re the DIY type, you might have them lying around in your garage or workshop. Use metal flash washers and not plastic, split or lock washers.

Ensure that your washers have an internal diameter big enough for your lug bolts and wheel studs to fit through. Sizes vary and are labelled according to the bolt they fit. For example, a 5/16” washer is built a little oversize so that it fits a 5/16” diameter bolt. The method described here requires several washers. Washers are reusable and a box of 50 with a 5/16” inner diameter could go for $6 or less.

Installing Wheel Spacers on Scion tC

The following steps are based on an installation of the H&R wheel spacers. The front spacers measure 15m while the back spacers measure 20 mm in thickness. This is the maximum recommended thickness. Going further than 20mm can lead to rubbing when the car goes through dips or hits bumps.

Below is an image of the front disc. Note how the hub and the disc have been installed so that you can re-install them the same way. You can use rust marks on the hub or the 2 little disc holes as your markers.

Remove the caliper bolts both at the top and bottom.

  • Bottom

Hang the caliper to prevent it from stressing the rubber nose.

The disc looks like this when pulled out.

Let your lug bolt align with the notch behind the hub to allow for easy removal. Use the tool specified within the manual to carry out this task.

Replace the factory lug bolt with that which came with the spacers. Do this for all lugs.

Add some washers and tighten the nuts. The new lugs need to sit flat behind the axel. Use a bar to keep the axel from moving or turning as you tighten the nuts.

Re-install the disc onto the hub and line the two with the mark you had made earlier. Put back the calipers and torque the caliper bolts to 79 ft-lbs. Install the spacers. Make sure they are facing in the right direction.

Put the tire back on. You are done with one wheel/tire. Work on the other sides. Your wheels should look like this after installing the front and rear wheel spacers.

Scion tC Mods with Wheel Spacers: Before & After (Pics)

Appearance: Sticking the Scion tC wheels out to improve the stance and more thrilling view.
Clearance: Tons of custom Scion tC wheels fail to provide plenty of spacing to comply with big brake kits.
Correction: The offset of the Scion tC wheel system appears to be too high, resulting in the wheels positioned too far inward. This may cause the tire to scrub on the inside Scion tC caliper covers, or other elements. Wheel spacers adapts the offset matter.
Handling: by moving your Scion tC wheels further apart, this easy reshaping can exalt the Scion tC automobile with more flanking stability and corner better.
