We don’t recommend using spacers if you install brake drums with a width of 1. This helps to avoid overloading the bearings.
A measure of the spacer width bases is the distance from the outside of the tire to the inside of the shield lug. It’s the maximum width you can use. Do not forget to leave a small margin to deflect the tire while driving.
In the case when you purchase new wheels for your car and spacers in addition to them, make sure to check the width of your wheels and compare it with the values of new wheels.
For example, if your new wheels displace up to 10 mm inwards, then 10mm-wide spacers correct this gap and improves the appearance of the car. If new wheels are even wider, consider it when choosing new spacers. Know that it is better to check and order spacers several times without risk and doubt.
Wheel spacers differ from each other in bolt pattern. It is not easy to order the bolt pattern if you do not have information about its characteristics. Stud pattern is based on the number of lugs on your wheels and the circle that their centers form. These 2 values characterize the bolt pattern, recommendations for which you can learn from the manual of your car manufacturer. The distance between the opposite wheel lugs called a diam of the lug circle. It measures in inches or mm.
Centerbore is the opening at the rear of the wheel. Today, more and more car companies produce hub centric spacers in order to center the wheel. Such spacers change the wrong distribution of pressure on the wheel and regulate its parts.
If you choose wheels in the secondary market, pay attention to the center bore, which should fit the size of a wheel hub. A slightly larger size is possible.
To configure the correct torque, you need to know the technical characteristics of your car. The first major condition is threads’ purity. It is unacceptable to leave grease or dirt on their surface. Use a degreaser and a rag to clean them.
Then easily fasten lugs without using tools. After that take the specific key and screw up to the requiring value. Repeat the procedure after the first 100 miles.
